There are a few signs that will tell you if your furnace is failing:
- It’s more than 10 to 15 years old
- Your energy bills are high
- The system doesn’t blow warm air anymore
- You hear or smell strange sounds or odors
If it’s time for a new furnace installation, trust our team to help you find the best system for you.
The answer depends on your comfort and budget. When on the auto setting, the fan will run only to maintain your desired temperature—for example, if you set the thermostat to 72 degrees, the fan will only kick on when the temp gets warmer than that. If set in the on position, the A/C fan will simply run continuously, providing more even cooling throughout the house. It provides more comfort but will cost more in terms of energy usage.
For best results, swap standard one-inch filters once every one to three months, or for high-efficiency (HEPA) filters, once every six to 12 months. This helps make sure the filters catch as many airborne pollutants as possible without blocking airflow or adding stress onto your heating and cooling systems.
Not only does it affect your air quality, but it also affects your health and comfort. Your home’s humidity levels should fall somewhere between 35 and 50 percent. If you have problems with dry or humid air, consider adding a whole-home humidification or dehumidification system—these units balance the moisture in the air and cut down on problems such as dry and itchy skin, aggravated allergies, and even mold and mildew.
